Concerning the efficacy of sunscreens preventing sunburn, it appears that not everyone is in agreement with this statement. See the publication in Photoderm. Photoimmunol. Photomed. 13 (4): 129-132. They also propose a new definition for SPF that you and others may be interested in - more fuel for future debates on this issue.
