CTD may well be mutagennic if they form! see P&P Nov issue paper by Drouin and Therrien. They show that the sites of mutation hotspots in p53 and the sites of cpd formation match up - ie, at Cytosines! The photochemistry is dependent to some degree on the weavelength of light used. We have all gotten accustomed to seeing photoproducts formed as a result of 254 nm (favoring thymine dimerization). BUT it appears the in vivo case due to UVB irradiation leads more to cytosine photoproducts!
